Who has experienced a "pay it forward" chain at a fast food drive-thru?

I've read about several cases where the PIF chain has lasted several hours.

Today, when I made it to the drive-thru at my local Del Taco I was told by the cashier that the person ahead of me had paid for my order. The order for the person behind me was only $6+ so I paid for their order.

I gave them a thumbs up, and they gave a thumbs up back, but they were probably wondering why.

So I was #2 in the PIF chain. On my next visit I'll have to ask how long it lasted.
